event infoCapturing the world’s attention with soulful songs like “Nací en Alamo” and “La Alegria”, Israeli singer-songwriter Yasmin Levy is considered to be a leading performer of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) songs despite her young age.

Blending Sepharad music with Andalusian flamenco and the musical traditions of the Middle East and Anatolia, Levy has brought a new interpretation to the medieval Ladino/Judeo-Spanish song by incorporating more "modern" sounds of Andalusian Flamenco and Turkey as well as combining instruments like the darbuka, oud, violin, cello, and piano.

With her distinctive and emotive style, she also covered the popular songs "Gracias a la Vida" by Violeta Parra and “Nací en Alamo³ from the film Vengo, directed by Tony Gatlif, which in its original version won the 2001 Caesar Award for Best Music Written for a Film.

Consecutively nominated for BBC World Music Award in the past three years, Levy worked with musicians from across a vast geography running from Paraguay to Iran for her first album “Romance & Yasmin” (2000) and then “La Juderia”. Released this year, her album with strong flamenco elements “Mano Suave” features the qanún and oud of Mümin Sesler.
